Two Short Films about the Green Shoes

FILM: The Green Shoes

(This is a large file and may take some time to download.)

Footage shown in this flm is from the exhibit at the ATA Gallery in San Francisco. Due to the the size of the space we installed somewhere around 50 pairs of shoes, just a fraction of the total number originally created, though i believe it still shows the open, spacious aspect of the piece, even at that smaller scale.

On the audio you'll hear a low "heart" loop, this was played across the entire field through a couple of sub-woofers. The high bell tones are played individually from each shoe. As a participant walks through the field and encounters a shoe, the shoe senses the approach and sounds a bell tone in response. Each of the bell tones heard in the film is a response to the presence of a visitor approaching.

Watch the film on a system that has good speakers, there's quite a rich soundscape to it, with some real low tones, you'll want to be able to hear it.... basic computer speakers won't give a sense of the sound scape created here.

Many thanks to the Deep Heaven folks who came to help install the show and specifically to Wally Phillips who spearheaded the Deep Heaven effort. Also thanks all the others who have helped to realize the piece thus far.

Thanks for visiting.
