Desire to add a pulse to the work inspired the light. I was intent on adding an animation to the piece, a feeling of life-force. One of the most striking aspects of the illumination is that the piece pulses in and out of existence in a dark/night environment. As the green light dims the installation fades from view, finally vanishing completely against the rocks, rubble, cement, wood, or whatever it rests on. With each new pulse of light the piece comes to life, to possibility, once again. There is something refreshing about it’s rhythm teasing the eye into watching, as if to question whether or not it will appear again. Of course it does. There is a hypnotism to it’s coming and going that inspires viewers to breathe along with it, to slow the pace of their own breath to match the ebb and flow of light.
